Born in Murwillumbah, NSW, one of a twin, and brought up in a country village, Stokers Siding. My father worked in a Banana Plantation.
An incredibly shy child, withdrawn and unconfident. I escaped into a world of drawing and painting. It was something I could do well. I had great success with my art during my youth - everything I painted either won a prize and/or sold.
Despite my early success, my creative path was not an easy one and over many years I took different paths and even abanoned art altogether.
I started to paint again about 2004. I was working in a stressful job and needed an outlet. However I needed a medium that did not "change" if I left it.
I started with acrylic, then oil, then watercolour, but none of these mediums worked with my job. They either dried too quickly or too slowly. So I decided to give pastel a go, but was not happy with the paper, the dust and having to frame under glass.
I read an article in an American pastel journal by Sandra K Jackoboice on how to paint pastels on canvas and seal with acrylic fixative between layers and then finish with an acrylic varnish. There were simple instructions, but it is far more complicated and I had to learn from my mistakes. It took me two years to master the technique.
I am now contacted by Pastellists worldwide, for the technique.
I had re-discovered my creative energy and style.
I am now enjoying using different mediums to achieve my visions.
Each canvas is the product of meticulous layering and refining glazes of colours and texture. My colour palette is typically brilliant yet harmonious.
Each canvas is a new experience to create bright images which fuse a contemporary design slant.
I have seen many contrasting landscapes. Originally from the Gold Coast in Queensland, I have travelled and worked through Central Queensland and the Snowy Mountain region of New South Wales, where we spent some time working at Perisher Blue Ski Resort.
It was only when we moved to the Pilbara in Western Australia did I realise I had been living in a wrong world, a world void of inspiration.
My favourite colours have always been reds, oranges, yellows and purples.
Living in the Pilbara has enabled me to utilise these colours whilst exploring this magnificent area, and its inhabitants on canvas.
2009 invited to hold a solo exhibition at the C3 Gallery, South Hedland.
2010 invited to hold a solo exhibition by FORM at the Courthouse Gallery, Port Hedland.
Our travels throughout Australia has provided me with inspiration to create far beyond my lifetime.
